Ushuaia – The End of the World
While waiting for Ohana to launch, we had some time to see Argentina and took a side trip and flew to Ushuaia. Ushuaia is at the tip of South America in Tierra del Fuego, and it is the southernmost city in the world. It’s also the end of the PanAmerican highway that starts in Alaska; we got to drive to the very end of the highway.
Despite the cold, we hiked a lot and enjoyed the surrounding beauty; the lakes and the Andes Mountains were breathtakingly gorgeous. Interestingly enough, Ushuaia is on the west side of the Andes, and it is the only Argentine city on the west side of the mountain range.
Six tall ships from around the globe came into port while we were there and were amazing to see up close.
During our time there, we enjoyed the local crab, similar to Alaskan king crab because of the similar climates, as well as the local beers.
The vistas are indescribable, and Ushuaia is like no place we have been before. It is where the snow-capped Andes mountains meet the icy waters of the Beagle Channel. Truly awe inspiring.
